Our Story
Townshend Landscape Architects was founded by Robert Townshend in 1988. Today, we are a studio of Landscape Architects based in Central London, with an established reputation for delivering high-quality public realm schemes across a wide range of scales, both domestically and internationally.
We are passionate about both design and integration, working closely in a studio environment to create places that are unique, memorable, and long-lasting. We firmly believe in working as part of a collaborative process through which we can shape the public realm to create lively environments that contribute to people's health, happiness, and well-being.
Community Investment
TLA are committed to investing in local community projects. Currently, we are closely involved with Global Generation, an educational charity that works with children, young people, businesses, and local families in Camden, Islington, and Southwark.
We have supported the Skip Garden at King's Cross and the Paper Garden at Canada Water, helping to shape spaces that inspire creativity and community engagement.
Our Design Approach
Creating places for people is embedded in our approach to design, enabling us to develop a vision inherent to a place. We believe people's quality of life and the quality of their built environment are intrinsically linked.
We seek to re-imagine public spaces that integrate with their surroundings and are the heart of local communities, towns, and cities, thereby creating the setting for public life to play out.
Sketchbook
We use hand-drawn sketches as an integral part of our design process, capturing concepts and ideas that shape the landscapes we create.
