Ebury Square

Client:
The Berkeley Group Holdings plc
Location:
City of Westminster
Ebury Square consists of two buildings by Squire and Partners flanking one side of Ebury Square in Victoria, London.
The Design
The design of the courtyard is based around a symmetry and centred on a pool of water. The water is bridged by stone paving, which is animated by two water chutes emanating from stone benches on either side. The symmetrical balance to the courtyard is strengthened with an allée of pleached evergreen oaks, Quercus ilex, that respond to the façade of the building, providing visual screening between the blocks and framing two areas of open lawn for residents to sit out during summer months.
Closely clipped box hedging contains herbaceous borders with a refined planting palette in rich shades that give this scheme a crisp and dynamic seasonal appearance.
Historic Ebury Square Gardens
Townshend Landscape Architects were asked to revitalise the historic Ebury Square as part of the new residential proposals. Using images of the gardens sourced from historic archives, a scheme was developed which maintains the original design intent.
