60 Gracechurch Street

Client:
Sellar & Obayashi Corporation
Location:
City of London
The landscape for Gracechurch Street is designed as a green ribbon that weaves through each level of the building, providing visibility from street level and access to green spaces on every floor, culminating in a public rooftop terrace.
The Design: A Journey from the Ground to the Sky
The ground floor connects the building to the broader urban environment, transforming it into a public space for Gracechurch Street. It features the office lobby, a lobby for cycle parking and showers, and a café courtyard in the under croft, which also provides access to the rooftop terrace. At night, the under croft transforms into a servicing bay, ensuring efficient use of space.
Level 35 has been designed to benefit the local community, offering cultural and leisure experiences. While primarily a commercial office building, it integrates public access with spaces focused on well-being and mindfulness, allowing visitors to journey from the under croft to the rooftop terrace with stunning views of London.
Level 35 is designed as a vibrant public space, welcoming people of all generations with its diverse planting and seasonal changes. The space aims to surprise and engage visitors, encouraging them to return throughout the year. The plant selection will highlight resilient, drought-resistant species, showcasing how plants can adapt to London’s changing climate while contributing to the aesthetic appeal and sustainability of the space.
